Supertouch Kindness Foundation (SKF) recently made significant strides in Michika, Adamawa State, celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) and engaging adolescents in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). On December 3, 2024, the Buba Marwa Civic Centre buzzed with over 1,000 attendees for the IDPD celebration, hosted by JONAPWD Michika Branch. This event, themed “Transforming the Nation Through Persons with Disability, With Empowerment and Equal Opportunity,” highlighted the rights and inclusion of PWDs. Government officials, NGOs, and community members joined in cultural performances, speeches, and donations, reinforcing a commitment to empowering PWDs.

Two days later, on December 5, 2024, SKF partnered with NHF and RHHF to conduct a crucial sensitization session at Forest, Government Secondary School (GSS) Michika. Fifty-two adolescents learned about GBV and their role in preventing it. Facilitators used interactive methods, including gift rewards and a palm-stamping pledge, to engage the youth. This session, part of the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV, fostered a culture of respect and non-violence.

Both events achieved their objectives: empowering PWDs and educating youth on GBV. However, challenges like overcrowding, late starts, and high expectations were noted. Recommendations for future events include larger venues, better crowd management, strict punctuality, and more engaging activities. These initiatives underscored SKF’s commitment to creating an inclusive and violence-free community in Michika. By empowering PWDs and educating adolescents, SKF is driving positive change and building a brighter future for all.
